Europe's top holiday hotspots have been feeling a bit packed in recent years - leading many Brits to seek out more unique, less-trodden paths.
Shelley Marmor, who runs the blog Tulum Travel Secrets, spoke about one of her top picks for underrated European treasures. Shelley revealed to the Mirror: "One of my favourite under-the-radar destinations in Europe is Brasov, Romania.
"To me, Brasov truly captures the essence of romantic, mysterious Transylvania while remaining an affordable, charming secret."
Brasov is nestled in Romania's enigmatic Transylvania region, famously linked to the legendary Count Dracula. Shelley added: "Nestled at the foot of the picturesque Carpathian Mountains, Brasov has a fairytale-like quality that immerses you in the rich history and culture of Romania.
"As you wander the lively cobblestone streets, I recommend admiring the medieval Gothic Black Church and the ornate Baroque St. Nicholas Church in the historic city centre.
"From my own travels, I can say the cable car ride up to the iconic Brasov sign on Mount Tampa is a must, offering sweeping panoramas of the terracotta rooftops and surrounding countryside.
"In my opinion, the best part of Brasov is that it remains relatively undiscovered compared to more popular cities like Bucharest or Sighisoara. You can really soak in the Baroque and Gothic architecture and stroll the pedestrian-only historical centre without dealing with massive crowds."
While Brasov may not be a well-known spot among British holidaymakers, Transylvania does boast one notable Brit admirer, reports the Express.
King Charles I is known to frequently visit Transylvania and reportedly has a deep affection for the region. The Royal even owns properties in this Romanian locale.
Shelley suggests venturing beyond the city limits to Piatra Craiului National Park to experience the area's lush meadows and forests.
The national park is situated approximately 30km from Brasov and can be comfortably visited on a day trip. Fancy a Romanian getaway? Discover why it's considered one of Europe's top destinations for bear spotting.
