Last week, we saw Cardi B on the Met Gala red carpet in head-to-toe green, including her eye shadow and her nails. The chartreuse velvet mani was a gorgeous choice for the biggest red carpet event of the spring, if not the year, but it looks like the Grammy-winning rapper is now ready for bright summer colors. On May 12, Cardi debuted a mesmerizing ocean blue set in the very trendy cats-eye style and it's magnetic in more ways than one.
Cardi wore the manicure to sit courtside at the New York Knicks versus Boston Celtics game in New York City on May 12 and showed it off in all its prismatic glory on her Instagram Stories. The rapper typically prefers a long nail, and her blue set was sculpted to perfection in a rounded stiletto shape. The entire nail was painted a bright sapphire blue color that almost perfectly matched the Knicks logo on the court—was that on purpose, Cardi?—and magnetized for that gorgeous shape-shifting shimmer. If I were her, I'd have a hard time focusing on the game and not my nails, TBH.
One her toes, Cardi kept it classic with a bright white pedicure, though experts did spotlight ocean blue as one of the trendiest summer pedicure colors. A vivid blue like Cardi's chosen shade always feels like pure summer, like diving into a pool on a hot day, walking on the beach, or grabbing a popsicle from the ice cream truck.
Cats-eye nails, also called magnetic nails, have ebbed and flowed through the nail art trend cycle for years and are currently experiencing a resurgence via some of our favorite celebs—including Jennifer Lopez, who gave the trend a spin in February with her frosty “iced chai” nails. Typically, the nail is painted with a special magnetic polish, then a magnet is waved over the still-wet nail to create the effect. For a similar look at home, try Holo Taco's Twice in a Blue Moon or Mooncat's A Galaxy Far, Far Away. Cardi would totally approve.
