Cricket bookings at a recreation ground will be suspended at the end of the season.
Ringwood Town Council has decided to suspend cricket bookings at Carvers Recreation Ground from the end of the current season.
The decision was made after a review of the facility's usage, costs, and community benefit.
The council noted a significant decline in cricket bookings by local clubs at Carvers Recreation Ground over recent years.
Despite efforts to promote the facility and support local sports, the level of use has not justified the increasing costs of maintenance and preparation required to keep the cricket pitch in playable condition.
Councillor Andy Briers, chair of the recreation, leisure and open spaces committee, said: "This was not a decision we took lightly.

"We understand the value of sport and recreation, but we must also ensure that our resources are used in ways that deliver the greatest benefit to the widest number of residents.
"Unfortunately, the cricket pitch at Carvers has seen very limited use, and the cost of maintaining it has become unsustainable.
"We will happily review this decision if local demand revives in future."
The council said it remains committed to supporting local sports and recreation and will continue to invest in facilities that are well-used and valued by the community.
Alternative uses for the space previously allocated to cricket are being explored, with a focus on inclusivity and community engagement.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to share their views and suggestions for future use of the area by contacting the town council directly or participating in upcoming public consultations.
