One person died and another was taken to the hospital for evaluation after two separate incidents on the Missouri River on Sunday.

According to Great Falls Fire Rescue, firefighters responded at 4:22 p.m. to the report of a male that had entered the river to retrieve a remote-controlled boat. A witness reported that the male struggled to swim, went underwater, and did not resurface. The fire department, the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, Cascade County Search and Rescue, and the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks launched boats to search for the male. The Great Falls Police Department launched a drone to provide an aerial vantage point. When the male was located, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier in the day, at 11:42 a.m., firefighters responded to a call to Warden Bridge, where a female jumped from the bridge and struggled to swim. Firefighters launched a boat to retrieve her. She was transported to Benefis East for medical evaluation.
